Ari and Ashley are both squad students that train at Moss Vale Aquatic Centre and had the opportunity to compete at state. Ari is a squad member coached by Ben Blaik and Kirrilee Bracht. He is also a part of the Moss Vale Amateur Swimming Club that ran racing meets on Friday evening throughout Terms 4 and 1. Ashely has been attending Moss Vale Aquatic Centre since the day it opened, which is now going on 6 years. She has been in our Squad program work her way up from mini to gold level in this time.

Ari has had a fantastic season of swimming. In February, he won Junior Boys Champion at the Wingecarribee District PSSA Swimming Carnival. He also deserves a massive congratulations on competing in six events at the South Coast Regional PSSA Swimming Carnival, coming 2nd in the Junior Boys 50m Butterfly in the following month.

He had a great swim and shaved 5 sec off his qualifying time to finish with a personal best of 42.62 sec. This result meant Ari qualified to compete at the NSW PSSA swimming carnival at Homebush. At the State Carnival, he had a fantastic swim getting another personal best of 39.74 sec. He finished 5th in his heat and 22nd, overall out of 39.

Also this year Ashley has been 14 years age champion at Chevalier and was under 14s girl champion at the southern highlands twilight zone. She was competing against all high schools in the southern highlands, which is amazing!

To achieve this Ashley trains up to 7 sessions a week both morning and evenings as well as competing at Moss Vale Swim Club on Friday evening, and other carnivals on the weekends.

We would like to congratulate all of our learn to swim and squad students in their amazing efforts during their carnival season. It has been an amazing effort and is thrilling to hear of all the triumphs of those who made it to state levels.

We would also like to congratulate Jessica Wray and Leo Zhu on your dedication to Moss Vale Aquatic Centre and for your brilliant swim season leading you to state.

For Mother’s Day, we wanted to celebrate all of our amazing Aussie mums out there with a special giveaway!

We ran a competition on Facebook and to enter we wanted to know why your mum or a mum you know (could be yourself!) deserves to win this prize!

Our amazing prize is valued at over $200 and only features products curated by Australian Mums! This includes Sophie Guidolin’s book, Macros, Zoe Foster Blake’s Go-To beauty products, Kristina Karlsson’s Kikki K stationary, Carolyn Creswell’s Carmen’s and products from Sue Ismiel’s Nad’s.

Check the post here!

It was a hard choice to make as there were so many deserving winners and heart-warming responses but our winner is…

Caroline Coady from Moss Vale Aquatic Centre!

“I’d actually like to win this for myself as my mum lives overseas, and I’m going to be spending Mother’s Day sleeping after a night shift, as my job as a midwife means we can never take it for granted that we’ll be able to spend these occasions with our own families ☺️”
(replied comment supported by Deborah Avery Hutchinson) “@Caroline Coady, I second Caroline’s entry, she looked after my baby after he was born (only 8 months ago) with so much love and consideration to me and to my baby boy! I can imagine Caroline would constantly be away from or sleeping through major events like Mother’s Day! So please consider her x”

BlueFit is proud to have a dedicated and committed BlueFit Green team. This past year the team has been researching smart energy savings options and practices that will make all our sites in Australia more environmentally sustainable. We are implementing our initiatives in phases to ensure we are finding the best solutions to use in all our facilities.

Some initiatives are visible to customers and staff, such as the reduction of plastic in our cafes and the introduction of more drinking fountains to refill reusable bottles. Other initiatives are happening behind the scenes.

In our plant rooms, we have been installing variable speed drives (VSDs) on our mechanical equipment. These devices can power-down our equipment in times of low centre usage and power-up the equipment only when it is necessary – during peak usage. Our lights look the same, but many have already been replaced with LED fixtures. These fixtures are now significantly reducing our energy demands!

BlueFit Green’s next initiative is to introduce our own BlueFit “Keep Cup” and recycling bins throughout our centres. We are looking forward to seeing BlueFit blend more green in our surrounding environments, are you?

At a time when keeping connected with loved ones is as easy as lifting your mobile phone from your pocket, it is comforting to know that those close to us really are within reach at any given moment. However, when it comes to supervising your child at our (or any) swimming pools, the concept of being within arms reach has an even greater significance.

Here, it is a matter of life and death.

Over the last few months, our lifeguards have saved the lives of several children whose parents or guardians were otherwise preoccupied on their phones – one of the recoveries occurred within arms reach of the parent, who was too busy on their phone.

Our lifeguards are an important safety feature but they DO NOT replace the close supervision of accompanying adults. A puddle of water is enough to cause an infant to drown, and as many as 20% of near-drowning survivors suffer permanent neurological disability.

We understand how easy it is to have new notifications or having the latest news at your fingertips but we urge you to remember the reason why you are where you are. It is for the sake of the loved one(s) who, at this moment are relying on you.

Keep safe and happy swimming for all of our customers!
